Members of the newly constituted Council of Convocation have been sworn into office by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso. The short ceremony was witnessed by some members of management and the out-going members of the Council of Convocation.
Professor Obiri-Danso stated that the constitution of the Council is important in the administration of the University and emphasised the need for the Council to familiarise its relationship with management to help position it clearly as stated in the Statutes of the institution.
He described the Council as the “bridge” between management and the people and admonished them to take keen be interest in the happenings of all sections in the University and to have the welfare of the people.
Mr. Reuben K. A. Glover, Chairman of the new Council, thanked management and the outgoing council and promised to be a partner in development.
Mr. Glover, however, called for cooperation between the Council and management and not to see them as adversaries in ensuring the welfare of staff. He also appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to make available the necessary resources and equipment to discharge their duties effectively.
Chairman of the outgoing Council, Professor Rexford Assasie Oppong pledged to partner the new Council to advance the course of the University.
He was hopeful that the new Council would further work to increase a donation, his team made to the KNUST Foundation during their term of office.
Members of the new Council are Sussana Asamoah, Mercy Vanessa Appiah-Castel, Richard Bruce-Lamptey and Charles Asamoah- Boateng as Clerk of Council. The rest are Dr. Akwasi Acheampong, Dr. Jacob K. Agbenorhevi, Dr. Emmanuel K. Akowuah and Dr. Christopher Larbi.
